This is an interesting one. We’ve seen from the likes of ‘Deadliest Warrior’ how wrong and contrived so-called ‘reality’ TV shows can be. The linked blog post by movie prop collector and specialist Jason DeBord details an awful lot wrong with a supposedly original ‘Star Wars’ lightsaber hilt and the ‘Comic Book Guys’ show that it appears on. Most viewers wouldn’t pick up on the detail necessary to spot this ‘passing off’ of mundane objects as pieces of film history; to do so is an insult to the intelligence of anyone watching.
If nothing else, and as Jason points out, if this hilt were in any sense ‘real’, it would be worth a damn sight more than $7,000.
